in vienna with the lomography petzval IV.

here is the last selection of photographs from our short but lovely visit to the gardens of Schönbrunn in Vienna. I have said it before and some of you agreed that Schönbrunn Palace resembles The Grand Budapest Hotel when captured with the LomoChrome Purple and its pastel colours.

lately it has been rainy and quite cold here and those summer days in Austria seem very far away. these are busy times but I got myself some new photographic equipment which I am really proud of: I cannot wait to try it out properly when I finally get the chance!

despite all the uncertainty that comes with it I still think the LomoChrome Purple XR 100-400 is very worth trying: all the photographs we took at Schönbrunn would have been completely different with another type of film. I got so fond of the soft and dreamy tones of this series of portraits!

the Petzval works with a set of aperture plates: it was wonderful to be able to try the special shape apertures and get different styles of bokeh. in this selection of photographs we used the drop aperture - one of my favourites. I really love the hexagon as well but that day was far too bright for it.

in vienna with the lomography petzval II.

it was extremely hot that day in Vienna and I did not handle the heat very well. I wish it was just a little cooler so that I could appreciate the beauty of Schönbrunn more and savour my first experience with the Petzval completely. still I cannot help but rejoice at the photographs we took!

perhaps these are a little overexposed: the Petzval works best with a large aperture but the shortest shutter speed of my Nikomat is only 1/250 and the light was too bright for it. I am very pleased with the tones of the LomoChrome Purple though: the facade of Schönbrunn Palace looks so pink it reminds me of the one of The Grand Budapest Hotel by Wes Anderson.

in vienna with the lomography petzval.

last weekend we flew to Austria to attend to a very special wedding not only as guests but especially as photographers. thanks to darling Simon of the Lomography Society International we got to borrow two Petzval lenses for the occasion: it was love at first sight! despite the busy schedule before flying back home we had a few hours to spend in the gardens of Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna: that was when we took each other's portraits with the Petzval lenses.

this is just a first selection of portraits: I will share more in the next few posts. the Petzval is a truly magnificent lens: I had never had such results before when shooting on a 35mm film. I wish we had more time to go around the beautiful gardens of Schönbrunn Palace. Vienna looked like such a lovely city too: I hope we will have the chance to visit it properly one day!

helsinki in purple.

tired of shooting with the same film and intrigued by the LomoChrome Purple XR 100-400 I decided to order some rolls of it online. I took the first few photographs on a weekend stroll around the city centre of Helsinki: the sun was shining bright and I exposed everything at iso 100.

Nikon FM - LomoChrome Purple XR 100-400
like for the Redscale XR 50-200 the results were quite random and inconsistent but overall pleasant. I was really in the mood for something different than the Kodak 400 and Kodak 200 I had been using for several months: the surreal colours of the LomoChrome Purple XR 100-400 were very refreshing in my opinion. I will share more purple photographs soon!

parco dello stelvio part VII.

this is the final post dedicated to our hiking holidays in Parco dello Stelvio: I cannot believe a month has already passed since then. on the last day Jacopo and I hiked down the mountains with two heavy backpacks and our cameras at hand: it was an intense but spectacular walk.
Parco dello Stelvio - part seven:

the more we hiked down the hotter it became and when finally the first trees appeared the landscape looked suddenly really different from what we were used to at 2127m. it was hard to leave the fresh air and the quietness of the mountain heights of Clevio! I hope we will be back to Val di Rezzalo one day soon: I do not want to wait 18 more years before visiting again!

parco dello stelvio part VI.

we took the first three photographs during our hike towards Cima Savoretta: the one where I am standing at the centre of that magnificent view was taken by Jacopo and I really love it. I took the one of the sunset on our last evening in Val di Rezzalo: the light was melancholy and beautiful.

I hope you are not bored with mountains just yet: there is one more post to go dedicated to Parco dello Stelvio before moving onto new places and new types of film - I am quite sick of Kodak 200!

parco dello stelvio part V.

the second day in Val di Rezzalo we went on the longest and most tiring hike I have ever done. we originally wanted to reach Laghetto dell'Alpe but we took the wrong path and ended up somewhere different. after 12km I was completely exhausted yet those landscapes really stole my heart.
Parco dello Stelvio - part five:

that day I also managed to burn a significant part of my forehead: the sun is incredibly strong at 2000m above the sea and it was really silly of me not to wear the sun protection evenly on my face.

P.S. since we are leaving for a weekend trip I am not going to blog anything new until next week. this way you will have time to catch up on all my previous posts on Parco dello Stelvio. Please do!

parco dello stelvio part IV.

after a long day of hiking I really liked coming back to our lovely hut to enjoy an earthy meal sitting by the fire. when I was little I could not really appreciate the quietness and solitude of Val di Rezzalo in Parco dello Stelvio - that is perhaps why I had not come back there for so many years.
Parco dello Stelvio - part four:
Nikomat EL - Kodak 200
the first evening we witnessed the most beautiful sunset ever just after the rain: the sun was long gone behind the mountains but a powerful orange light was reverberating on the clouds filling the sky. that was when I took the first photograph of this selection while the other three were taken the day after. that lovely swing installed not far from our hut was a pleasant surprise: I still wonder who built it.

P.S. these days I am blogging quite often: if you have missed the previous posts about Parco dello Stelvio please go back to take a look at them. I always appreciate your comments!

parco dello stelvio part III.

I hope you all have had a wonderful start of August! I cannot believe July has already gone and two weeks have already passed since our trip to Parco dello Stelvio. my memories are fresh though and there are still many photographs I want to share with you. so far here is my third selection.
Parco dello Stelvio - part three:
Nikomat EL - Kodak 200
these were all taken the first day during our hike to Passo dell'Alpe. in the evening on the way back to my family's mountain hut we met those lovely horses: to get them to come closer we fed them with our granola bars and I still wonder if that was a wise thing to do. Is granola ok for horses?
