I am still spending a couple of days with my family and I am so grateful for the time we are having together — not to mention that the weather has been incredibly beautiful! This morning I took a photowalk with my sister in Pian di Spagna nature reserve and these are a few of my favourite shots: I am really happy with them.

Merry Christmas! Like every year, I am spending it in Italy with my family. The weather has been sunny and welcoming so far, so I'm hoping there will be time to take more photos! Yesterday afternoon my sister and I joined my parents for a walk by the lake in Sorico: the light was magnificent and I even succeeded in capturing a couple of swans. Most of all, I'm happy I was able to spend such a beautiful afternoon outdoors with the people I love. I hope you are also spending the holidays with your loved ones!

Despite being the darkest time of the year, December has gifted us with a few unexpected sunny days. The temperatures are too cold and the day light too short to be outside for long, so planning photowalks is difficult. These were taken today around 2 pm — just before the sunset — in Tarvo. The ground was frosty and the sun setting made for some beautiful backdrops. This is a time for tea drinking with friends to fight the cold and darkness, but I long to be outdoors with my camera.

A few more photographs from last Saturday in Nuuksio with Alina. Towards the end of our photowalk the sun came out and the air became a bit warmer. I felt so lucky to be outside with my camera at the right time: these moments are so rare in December. I really hope to be that lucky a few more times before the end of the year!

03.12.2016 — part 1

Welcome back December, I hope you will bring some more snow and clear skies!
It has been hard to find someone willing to go on a photowalk: the weather is so cold, not many people like to spend time outdoors. I was so happy when I contacted Alina and she said she would be interested in it! She also works with photography and graphic design, so we had a lot to talk about while walking around Nuuksio! I'm very pleased with the way the photographs turned out — below are a few of my favourites.

A few more photos from last Sunday in Lammassaari. I'm not particularly happy with these — the light was dull and uninspiring, but I still thought I would share them since the walk per se was nice. I hope next weekend I will be more inspired; maybe someone will like to join our next photowalk — that would be wonderful!

Just when I thought Helsinki would be white for the rest of the winter, the weather proved me wrong once again and the snow melted all away. Despite the cold and the clouds, I cannot imagine spending an entire weekend indoors; a walk in the nature always makes me feel better. These were taken yesterday morning in Lammassaari.

A few more photographs from our photowalk with Heidi last Saturday in Seurasaari. The sun had eventually hidden behind the clouds, but the light remained for a while longer and the last few photographs turned out very atmospheric in my opinion!
I'm very happy with the feedback I got about this latest photowalk and I hope to be able to keep up with it. Already looking forward to the next outing with my camera!

19.11.2016 — part 1

I met Heidi for a portrait session last summer, but when she contacted me again a few days ago I did not want our new photographs to be just portraits; I wanted them to tell a story. It was so lucky that the sun came out during our photowalk: the winter light is beautiful because it is so rare! I'm very happy with the atmosphere of these photographs, but I will be even happier if someone tells me that I have succeeded in telling a story; that they feel the connection that was missing in my portraits.

These were taken on Sunday during a walk in the neighbourhood, but the snow has continued to fall since then. It's so beautiful to see everything white already at the beginning of November and it's not common to have snow with leaves still lingering on the trees. I'm so thankful for this early snow fall! Even if the cold is unbearable, I really can't wait to be able to go out taking photographs again. Come weekend, come!

The first snow came a few days ago and plenty more fell today. I'm so happy it seems like this will be a proper winter: we hadn't had snow falling so early in years. I was dreading the darkness of November, but everything looks brighter now! These photographs are from yesterday — Saturday morning — when we took a walk outside the city. Our walks must be shorter now that the temperature is below 0°C degrees.
